Catalog description

The course covers the structure-property-processing relationship for engineering materials with an emphasis on metals. The fundamentals of atomic, crystal and defect structures, atomic movement in solids, binary phase diagrams and an introduction to phase transformations are covered. Electrochemical corrosion of metals is introduced. Material properties (with a particular focus on mechanical properties) are described along with common test methods.
