Catalog description

This course deals with the study of stress, strain, deformation, and failure of deformable bodies subjected to external forces. The primary objectives are: (1) to establish relations between the loads applied to a body and resulting deformations, stresses and strains produced in the body, and (2) establishing procedures for finding required dimensions of a member to carry given loads while subjected to a stated specification of stress and/or deflection.
