Catalog description

This is the first of a two-course sequence focused on developing and executing a team-based capstone design project in Industrial Engineering. The course reinforces core industrial engineering methods, analytical tools, and professional practices from the curriculum to prepare students for successful project execution. Working in teams on an external client-sponsored project, students define the problem, engage stakeholders, establish measurable objectives, identify constraints and risks, and select appropriate analytical and operational improvement approaches. Emphasis is placed on project planning and implementation readiness. The course concludes with a formal design proposal - including problem statement, background, scope, methodology, timeline deliverables, and an implementation approach - approved by the client and team advisor to guide project execution in the second capstone course.
