Health Professions in Context: Systems, Equity, and Collaboration

This course deepens students’ understanding of health-related professions as students further explore how health professions intersect within complex healthcare systems and how interprofessional collaboration enhances patient care, safety, and innovation. Through reflective practice and systems thinking, students will examine how political, social, economic, and cultural factors influence healthcare delivery and professional roles. The course will critically engage with issues of equity, fairness, and social justice, encouraging students to consider how structural determinants impact health outcomes and access to care. Building on the Flourishing Framework, students will further develop the virtues of caring, character, and practical wisdom-applying these values to real-world challenges and ethical dilemmas in health practice. By the end of the course, students will be equipped to think holistically, act collaboratively, and advocate for just and compassionate healthcare systems.
