Catalog description

This course provides a survey of German history from classical times through the present day. The course focuses on Germany’s fragmented political and religious geography throughout most of its history and its late unification in the nineteenth century. The course also focuses upon the growth of Germany, particularly its establishment as a nation-state and the role it played in European history from 1871 to the present. The course also examines the political, social, economic, and foreign policy trends that have shaped Germany and its people. Finally, the course examines the historiographical trends that have emerged from the study of German history.
