Catalog description

Since the French Revolution, Europe has experienced the emergence and development of myriad new ideologies that have been reflected in an equally large number of institutions, both in the public and private spheres. These ideologies include rationalism, absolutism, conservatism, liberalism, nationalism, capitalism, socialism, communism, Social Darwinism, colonialism, and fascism. The developments of these ideologies are explored as are the public and private institutions that emerged from these ideologies, including democratic government; various forms of dictatorship; and processes including industrialization, urbanization, and the establishment of European colonial empires.
