Catalog description

This course explores the causes, progression, and consequences of the American Revolution: the conflict that destroyed the first British Empire, created the American Republic, and inspired a wave of democratic revolutions that shook the foundations of the Atlantic world. The Revolution was a war for independence from Great Britain, an experiment in republican government, and a struggle to transform the nature of American society. The course begins with the British Empire in the Americas in the mid-eighteenth century and ends with the passage of the U.S. Constitution.
