Creative Writing

Catalog description

An introduction to creative writing, the course will investigate and instruct students in the process of creating original prose, poetry, and/or dramatic format works. The class will focus on a minimum of two genres and will cover both experimental and traditional forms. Together, the instructor and the students offer support and critical feedback about each student’s work. Weekly class discussions and writing assignments focus on principles of voice, style, plot, tension, character, scene, and dialogue. Attention will be given to these principles and other elements that increase the readability and subsequent reception.
