This is a placeholder course for the course Communication Networks that is taken by MSOE students studying abroad at the Technische Hochschule Lübeck (THL) as part of the Electrical Engineering Exchange program with THL. Note: This course is not intended for regular offering at MSOE. This course meets the following Raider Core CLO Requirement: None Course Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to: Explain the structure and functions of reference models Explain important terms in networking and understand and explain difference between service and protocol Derive quality of service requirements for the underlying network and design protocols to meet these requirements for a given application Design, set up and maintain a communication network Course Topics Reference models LANs Network layer Transport layer Application layer Laboratory Topics OSI layers service and protocol Switch and LANs, VLANs Routers and routing protocols, fragmentation, forwarding Transmission control protocol, segments, and reliable transfer Coordinator Dr. Jennifer Bonniwell
