Construction Management Capstone

Catalog description

This course may be taken independently or as part of a two-course capstone sequence experience conducted in collaboration with Architectural Engineering students. Students form multidisciplinary teams and develop project solutions that meet specified client needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare. Global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors are considered throughout the project development process. Construction Management students focus on the planning and management of construction execution. Students develop comprehensive construction management plans including site logistics planning, safety management, quality assurance procedures, detailed cost estimating, construction scheduling, clash detection, and project coordination strategies. Students also evaluate project risks, explore value engineering opportunities, and develop project management information system processes. Students integrate knowledge gained from prior coursework to plan, coordinate, and communicate construction strategies within a multidisciplinary team environment. Final project documentation and presentations demonstrate the student’s ability to manage complex construction projects and communicate solutions to faculty, clients, and industry professionals.
