Preconstruction Capstone

Catalog description

This course may be taken independently or as part of a two-course capstone sequence experience conducted in collaboration with Architectural Engineering students. Students form multidisciplinary teams and develop project solutions that meet specified client needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare. Global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors are considered throughout the project development process. Construction Management students focus on preconstruction planning and analysis. Responsibilities include evaluating project feasibility, preparing conceptual cost estimates, developing preliminary construction schedules, reviewing constructability, analyzing sustainability considerations, and identifying project risks. Students collaborate with design team members to provide construction insight that informs design decisions and supports development of a coordinated project concept. Students work together to establish project goals, plan tasks, and meet project milestones within a collaborative and inclusive team environment. Students must effectively communicate their construction strategies and project evaluations to faculty, clients, and industry professionals during interim and final project presentations. The work completed in this course may serve as the foundation for continued project development in Construction Management Capstone.
