Principles of Construction Project Management

This course emphasizes construction-phase activities and the practical responsibilities of a project manager operating within a CM-at-Risk delivery model. Students engage in a team-based, project-driven learning experience that synthesizes prior coursework in scheduling, estimating, safety, and sustainability. A major focus is placed on preparing and presenting a professional response to a Request for Proposal (RFP), with activities that mirror real-world construction management practices, including project risk analysis, subcontractor negotiations, safety planning, scheduling, value engineering, and cost tracking. Students integrate multiple domains of knowledge to develop value-driven project solutions that respond to complex owner needs, stakeholder expectations, and logistical constraints. Construction project management software is introduced and used to support workflows, such as electronic documentation, for meeting minutes, RFI’s, Submittals, and project documentation review.This course fulfills the Raider Core CLO requirement for Integrated Learning by challenging students to connect knowledge across disciplines, adapt methodologies to unfamiliar problems, and deliver strategic, stakeholder-centered outcomes. Through this work, students cultivate the ability to apply diverse technical and managerial skills in cohesive and context-specific ways.
