Catalog description

This course is the first in a series of two courses in the chemical and biomolecular engineering senior design sequence. Emphasis is placed on forming design teams, defining a project to meet customer needs, conducting market research, learning project management techniques, researching relevant literature, learning about institutional review board (IRB) processes (if applicable to the project), and maintaining an engineering logbook. Each student design team defines and plans a project, builds and tests the prototype (if applicable), understands IRB procedures, intellectual property issues, and introduction of codes and standards. SuperPro Designer is used to perform a feasibility study of a manufacturing process related to the project topic.
