Catalog description

This course explores the concepts of stress, strain, and deflections in elastic bodies. This includes evaluation of statistically determinate and indeterminate structures subjected to axial and torsional loading. Generalized Hooke’s Law and mechanical properties are discussed. Beam behavior is analyzed for normal stresses, shear stresses, and deflection. Stress transformations and principal stresses are calculated by Mohr’s circle. Combined loading and elastic buckling of columns is covered.
