Fundamentals of Medical Imaging and Imaging AI

Catalog description
This course serves as an introduction to medical imaging systems commonly used in clinical settings. The course covers the hardware, design and operation of common medical imaging systems such as X-Ray and Computed Tomography, as well as fundamentals of image processing. Novel image processing methods involving artificial intelligence (AI) are emphasized. Throughout the course, advantages and practical limitations of AI-based medical imaging are discussed. The importance of accurate and consistent image labeling for AI applications is emphasized. Clinical case-study examples are used to illustrate the abovementioned concepts and their effects on clinical reliability of AI-based medical imaging tools.
