Catalog description

This course introduces students to the biomedical engineering (BME) profession. Students are introduced to different subdisciplines and career options in BME. The BME curriculum is discussed, along with strategies for choosing among different curricular and co-curricular options to best be prepared for the different career options. Students are also introduced to the medical device design process and engage in a group project to design and fabricate a medical device component based on realistic specifications. Alongside core BME content, students gain a foundational understanding of artificial intelligence (AI), and its applications in biomedical contexts. Ethical considerations, critical evaluation, and responsible use of AI are emphasized throughout. Applied AI Integration: This course meets or exceeds MSOE’s Applied AI Integration guidelines for sufficient coverage of Foundational Knowledge, Critical Evaluation, and Social Responsibility.
