Cultural Anthropology

Catalog description

This course introduces students to the discipline of cultural anthropology. Students learn about the nature of culture, or webs of interconnected symbolic systems that differ between human societies. Students also learn about the various theories that anthropologists have employed to explain culture and the concepts and methodologies used to objectively examine human cultures. The course also considers various aspects of culture such as marriage, political organization, exchange, gender, religion, and stratification. The goal of this course is to develop within students a deeper appreciation for, and a clearer understanding of, the rich cultural diversity of our world.
