Music Appreciation

Catalog description

Music Appreciation is an introductory, nonperformance-based survey course designed for students with little or no formal musical training. The course aims to enhance listening skills and cultivate an informed understanding and enjoyment of music through exploration of Western classical music traditions, with some exposure to global and popular music genres. Students will be introduced to musical elements such as melody, harmony, rhythm, texture and form in order to develop the vocabulary and critical tools necessary to describe, analyze and evaluate musical works.
