Catalog description

This course provides an introduction to machining processes, materials and standards utilized in manufacturing. The machining processes covered will include turning, milling, grinding, electrical discharge machining (EDM), punch pressing, welding, drilling, reaming, tapping, water jet cutting, plasma cutting, laser cutting, plastics forming, casting, powder metallurgy, and composite forming. The materials discussed will consist of ferrous and nonferrous metals and alloys, plastics, composites, and ceramics. The standards addressed in this course include ANSI, ISO, AISI, ASTM, as well as UN and metric threads.
