Catalog description

Introduces students to the basic principles of college-level composition, research, critical reading and critical thinking with an emphasis on academic writing conventions. In addition to examining the content and structure of academic essays, instruction in sentence structure and usage is provided as needed. Written work for this course consists of essays that are expository and analytical in nature. Major attention also is given to the preparation and writing of a research essay through writing assignments which emphasize finding, evaluating and incorporating appropriate secondary sources into students’ written work.
