Catalog description

Investigation of fundamental mechanical design concepts and methods. Application of engineering mechanics, materials, and manufacturing concepts in analysis is used to design mechanical elements and systems. Principles of dynamic system modeling with emphasis on second order mechanical systems. Harmonic and nonharmonic vibrations of single and multi-degree of freedom systems. Applications of computer simulation and analysis techniques in vibrations. Topics include combined stress, contact stress, stress concentration, fatigue, deflection, and theories of failure. Prerequisite: MENG 331. Offered spring term each year. Three semester hours.
