Catalog description
Comprehensive study of fluid mechanics theory and its application in the real-world. The study is introduced through exploration in hydrostatics, pressure, fluid properties, and buoyancy. The course progresses through the more advanced concepts of fluid motion including mass, momentum, and energy conservation principles as well as the Bernoulli principle. Applications of these principles are emphasized in pipe flow, duct flow, flow measurement, boundary layer influences, and flow around solid bodies. Comprehensive and advanced topics are focused on fluid system analysis and turbomachinery. Prerequisite: MATH 309, MENG 201, MENG 202. Offered fall term each year. Three semester hours.
