Engineering Fundamentals

Catalog description

This course introduces the engineering professions and aims to develop foundational engineering skillsets, such as engineering drawing, mechatronics, and unit conversion. A key focus of this course emphasizes how public health, safety, and welfare, global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors influence engineering design choices. In addition, this course discusses how engineering solutions contribute and impact social, economic, and environmental aspects through case studies, interviews, and hands-on project experiences. As an introductory course that is open to non-engineering students, this course will provide foundational information on engineering analysis for interested students exploring the intersection between engineering and other disciplines, such as biomedical, patent law, medicine, robotics, and social work. Prerequisite: MATH 171 or equivalent math placement on the readiness exam. Offered spring term each year. Three semester hours.
