Catalog description
This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the fundamental concepts of computer organization and architecture, focusing on the structure and behavior of computer hardware. Students will explore the essential components of computer systems, including the processor (CPU), memory, and input/output (I/O) mechanisms, along with the principles of arithmetic operations and digital logic that underlie computer operations. This course covers data representation within a computer system, the architecture of the CPU and how it processes instructions and the design and function of digital circuits. ARM processors are used as a vehicle to introduce assembly language. Additionally, students will learn about memory hierarchy, virtual memory, and cache memory organization, equipping them with a thorough understanding of how computers are designed to process, store, and retrieve data efficiently.
