Catalog description
An examination of the experiences of trauma, crisis, and grief and the necessary theoretical models and therapeutic techniques used in appropriate interventions to address the clinical needs resulting from those experiences. The course includes application of theory and technique to situations encountered in clinical practice including typical and complex grief, hospice and palliative care, suicide, family and interpersonal violence, survival of various traumas, environmental disasters and catastrophes as well as developmental consideration for experiences occurring throughout the lifespan. Students gain both knowledge and confidence in their ability to address grief, traumatic experiences, and crises. Offered spring term each year. Three semester hours.
