Catalog description

An introduction to, and initial preparation for, the profession of counseling. Behavioral and professional expectations of counselors are emphasized. The course provides an overview of theories and techniques of counseling and psychotherapy with concentration on comprehensive analysis of each theory. Skills in intake assessment, treatment planning, brief and long-term models, crisis intervention, and prevention strategies will be developed. This course must be taken at Milligan; no transfer credit will be allowed for this course. Offered fall term each year. Three semester hours.
