Counseling Skills Lab

Catalog description

This experiential lab course provides hands-on training in fundamental counseling skills essential for effective interpersonal communication and professional helping relationships. Students will develop, practice, and be evaluated on core techniques, including active listening, maintaining appropriate eye contact, reflection of content and feelings, paraphrasing, summarization, and the use of open- ended questions and more. Through role-playing exercises, peer feedback, and instructor guidance, students will enhance their ability to build rapport, demonstrate empathy, and facilitate meaningful conversations. Offered as needed. One semester hour.
