Math in Non-European Cultures

Catalog description

A survey of mathematical ideas developed by non-European cultures, including, but not limited to, those of Africans, Asians and native North, Central and South Americans. Includes culture and specific examples from the following areas of mathematics: number theory, topology, probability, group theory and logic (3 credits). For Legacy General Education, this course may be taken for general education credit (D for all majors, G2 for non-math and non-science majors), and satisfies the Foundations for Lifelong Learning Mathematics Requirement. For Gateway General Education, this course may be taken for Cornerstone-Quantitative Literacy (QL) credit. No more than one of MATH 100, 102, 107, and 108 may be taken for general education credit.
