Catalog description

Course surveys major developments in 20th-century Africa by situating them in their respective historical contexts. It examines the idea of race, cultural representation of others, colonial economic relations, decolonization, national liberation movements, debts, structural adjustment programs, democracy, post-apartheid South Africa, the emergence of U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) and Human Rights and Development. Prereq: ENGL 110.
