Each First Year Seminar (FYEX) section features an academic centerpiece (a question, topic, or theme) that will ground the process of intellectual inquiry through a free exchange of ideas during and outside of class. FYEX instructors mentor and assist students in developing meaningful and purposeful goals. Credit will only be granted for one FYEX 100 course, regardless of letter or title. Specific to this FYEX 100 Course Description: Do you want to be the change you wish to see in the world? Your journey of exploring social justice and finding inspiration to make positive social change starts here! Utilizing a social justice perspective and a human rights framework, we will explore social problems, social justice heroes of the past, and current ways to make the world a better place. In this class, you will learn about campus resources –both academic and social –to help you thrive. This course will culminate with your production of a scholarly electronic research poster delineating a social justice warrior of pure inspiration. In this course, students will begin to explore the topic of social justice as a motivating influence to inspire social change. Utilizing a social justice perspective and a human rights framework, this course will explore a variety of social problems, social justice heroes of the past, and current ways to make the world a better place for everyone. This course will culminate with your production of a scholarly electronic research poster delineating a social justice warrior of inspiration. As a FYEX 100 course, students will be provided with an open and supportive atmosphere to engage as budding scholars. Additional resources relating to orientation to campus and the academic environment will be provided.
