Catalog description

A comprehensive examination of some of the pressing ocean-related environmental issues of the 21st century using critical thinking and quantitative approaches. Emphasis on how human activities are changing ocean ecosystems and environments, and how sound scientific reasoning can reveal true cause-and-effect relationships that then may lead to viable solutions. Includes occasional field work demonstrating modern techniques of water quality analysis, and case studies of real-world marine environmental problems. 2 hrs. lec., 2 hrs lab. Prereq: ESSC 261 or permission of the instructor.
