Orientation to the Operating Room & Anesthesia

Catalog description
This is a 1.5 credit course inclusive of both didactic and hands-on skills lab covering introduction to operating room protocol which will include learning basic aseptic technique, surgical attire, proper methods of gown and gloving, proper technique of surgical scrub, application of tourniquet, draping of the patient, application of posterior splint, understanding the sterile field, and developing surgical conscious. Furthermore, the didactic portion of this course will also familiarize the student with the basic principles of Anesthesia and preoperative management of surgical patients while students practice intubation and intravenous catheter insertion during skills lab. Prerequisites PMEDG 1512 Podiatric Medicine I; PMEDG 1531 Podiatric Surgery
