It offers a survey of fundamental concepts essential for further study in psychology while examining how psychological theories, research, and practices intersect with history, identity, race, and culture. Students will explore both historical and contemporary contributions of African American psychologists, as well as culturally responsive frameworks and the application of psychology to issues affecting Black communities. Topics include learning, motivation, cognition, personality, human development, social psychology, and abnormal behavior, with particular attention to how these areas are shaped by cultural and historical contexts.
