History of Women in the US

Catalog description
A survey of the history of women in the United States from the 16th century to the present. Students will approach women's history as both an integral part of the nation's past as well as a distinct subject of historical investigation. Through the analysis of primary and secondary sources, students will examine how women with different beliefs and backgrounds engaged with their context. Topics may include: historical changes in family and economic life; religious and spiritual traditions; social and political activism; cultural and artistic work; the women's liberation movement; the rise of the conservative women's movement; the intersection of race and gender in women's experiences; and the debates over reproductive rights and sexual politics.

HYBRID COURSE: Students are required to participate in BOTH Off Campus and ONLINE modalities for this course. Students are required to access CANVAS for this course. This course section will meet off campus at the East Jersey Old Time Village in Piscataway, New Jersey. "Through a partnership with Middlesex County's Division of History and Historic Preservation, this class focuses on Colonial U.S. History and will meet at the East Jersey Old Town Village, located at 1050 River Rd in Piscataway. Students will be expected to reach the site for class on their own. Transportation vouchers are available through the county agency for students seeking reimbursement for travel to/from the site.
