Catalog description

This is an Institutional Priority course that develops key competencies in critical thinking and oral communication through an introduction to basic scientific principles and methodology. This course includes additional online modules to support Institutional Priority Learning Outcomes and Career Competencies. The course offers an opportunity for students to apply critical thinking skills to issues in the natural sciences and to gain experience in developing and presenting original arguments in oral forms. Topics will include discussions of how the scientific method was developed and established, how modern science is practiced, and current controversies in the world of the natural sciences. Students will also learn how to evaluate critically various sources of information about the sciences from several types of media.
