Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) Unit 1

Catalog description

This course introduces students to pastoral care and crisis care ministries. Students will explore mental health, pastoral care, and trauma (family and individual). Students engage in weekly debriefing sessions, textbook readings, didactics, reflection papers, theological reflection, and clinicals (patient visits, trauma care). This training is useful for congregational and workplace ministries, hospices, prisons, and hospitals (6 credit hours). Students who go on to earn a total of 4 units of CPE will meet the criteria expected for employment in chaplaincy.
