This class explores the establishment and growth of the early United States. It includes a historical emphasis on the United States’ colonial roots and political development, as well as its social structures and cultural institutions. HIST 4203 19 th Century United States History (3 cr.) This course seeks to understand the history of the United States in the 19 th century. While generally focusing on America’s territorial, political, industrial, and international maturation, this class also explores pivotal events and movements, such as the Civil War, Populism, and the Second Great Awakening. Prerequisites: HIST 2103 and HIST 2203. Offered spring semester: even-numbered years.
