Catalog description
This course provides the student teacher with firsthand experience in a school setting through observation and teaching in an accredited school. The course is designed to offer flexibility in scheduling: it can be taken as 9 credit hours over a 16-week term or split into two segments, EDUC 4906 Student Teaching I (6 cr.) and EDUC 4903 Student Teaching II (3 cr.) , across two 10-week terms. 16-Week Option (9 cr.): Students spend 14 of the 16 weeks in the classroom under the supervision of a cooperating teacher at a public school and a Mid-America Christian University supervisor. 10-Week Option (6+3 cr.): EDUC 4906 Student Teaching I (6 cr.): Students spend 10 weeks in the classroom under the supervision of a cooperating teacher at a public school and a Mid-America Christian University supervisor. EDUC 4903 Student Teaching II (3 cr.): Students spend 4 weeks completing the 14-week student teaching requirement in the classroom under the supervision of a cooperating teacher at a public school and a Mid-America Christian University supervisor. This course is a culminating experience designed to prepare students for the teaching profession. Prerequisites include completion of specialization and professional education courses.
