Counseling Program Orientation
Mid-America Christian University · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
The Counseling Program Orientation is designed to introduce new students to the expectations, structure, and values of the counseling profession and the academic program. This orientation provides an overview of program goals, accreditation standards, academic requirements, ethical and professional responsibilities, and available student resources. Students will learn about faculty and advising roles, and key program components such as practicum, internship, and licensure preparation. Through presentations and faculty-student engagement, participants will be introduced to academic requirements that prepare them for the counseling profession. The orientation emphasizes the importance of self-awareness, diversity, ethical practice, and commitment to lifelong learning. A major goal of the orientation is that students are made aware, early on, of the tools and expectations required to successfully navigate their graduate program experience and engage meaningfully in the counseling community.
