Catalog description

General, Organic, and Biochemistry is a one-semester course designed for students majoring in allied health and nursing programs who are not science majors. This course introduces fundamental principles and concepts of general, organic, and biochemistry. Topics include unit conversions, nomenclature, atomic structure, chemical bonding, stoichiometry, gas laws, acids, bases, chemical equilibrium, electrolytes, and solutions. In addition, the course provides a foundational overview of organic chemistry and biochemistry, with an emphasis on applications relevant to health sciences. The laboratory is a required and integral component of learning scientific experimentation, safety protocol, and proper reporting of results.
