Catalog description

Environmental Microbiology is a course designed for biology majors. It focuses on microorganisms and their role in the environment. Major topics include an introduction to major groups of microorganisms and their physiology, soil microbiology, aquatic microbiology, biogeochemical cycling, sewage treatment, biodeterioration, bioremediation, industrial microbiology, and biotechnology. In addition, the laboratory is a required and integral component in introducing students to various microbiology laboratory techniques, including bacterial isolation, enumeration, bacterial analysis, and functional assays.
