This course is designed for students preparing for a health-professions graduate program. It is a systematic study of the vertebrate immune system, emphasizing the molecular and cellular mechanisms of host defense. The concepts covered include innate and adaptive immunity, antigen presentation, lymphocyte activation and differentiation, the genetic basis of receptor diversity, and the clinical consequences of immune system dysfunction, such as hypersensitivity, autoimmunity, and immunodeficiency.
