Catalog description

WGS 201 is designed to provide students the intellectual tools and interpersonal skills to examine how our lives and the lives of others are informed by social, cultural, and biological meanings given to the concepts Gender, Sex, and Sexuality in our communities and cultures, over time, and around the world. We will take an intersectional approach to our investigations, remaining mindful that these concepts operate alongside other interlocking social formations such as race, class, nation, religion, ethnicity, dis/ability, caste, and/or culture. Focus will be on what gender is and does (beyond sound bites and unreflective presuppositions of what gender is and does) and how it works relationally in different contexts to allow some more access to resources that allow for flourishing and others less access and more barriers to flourishing. IC, IIIB. PA-4B, PA-4C, SI-02. CAS-B.
