Catalog description

This is one part of a concurrently-running pairing of courses that prepares preservice teachers to enter the middle-childhood classroom with a flexible and culturally and linguistically responsive professional stance that enables them to serve their future students of all diverse identities and needs. In this part of the course, students will draw from the concepts learned in the first part of the course to then imagine and apply what it means to be a culturally and linguistically responsive middle-school teacher in everyday practice. Students will examine cognitive, social, and emotional development, instructional strategies, classroom management techniques, and assessment methods specific to this developmental stage. Prerequisite: Retention in appropriate Middle Childhood cohort.
