Catalog description

TCE 221 introduces PK-12 teacher candidates to the public educational policies governing the education of English learners (ELs) and the ways school districts navigate these obligations while providing culturally relevant and sustaining instruction for students learning English. This course aquaints students with sociocultural and policy contexts along with theories of second language acquisition and instructional models that will help them work successfully with ELs. Assignments enable teacher candidates to demonstrate and apply knowledge of the dynamic academic, personal, familial, sociocultural and policy contexts to the education and English language acquisition of ELs as supported by research and theories.
