Catalog description
Develop speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills in Spanish through a medical and healthcare-focused, context-driven approach. Targeting Intermediate-Mid proficiency, this course strengthens vocabulary, grammar, and form-meaning connections while emphasizing real-world communication about cultural and societal issues affecting healthcare and Latino patients in the U.S. and Latin America. Students actively engage in oral and written tasks, using Spanish to explore cultural perspectives, healthcare disparities, and challenges faced by Latino communities. A proficiency-oriented course fostering language growth, cultural competence, and critical thinking around culturally relevant and sensitive health topics. IC. PA-4B, SI-05. CAS-A. Prerequisite: SPN 202 or SPN 203 or appropriate placement exam score (311 or above).
