Latino Health and Health Care in the U.S.

Catalog description

SPN 103 equips students with the skills necessary for careers working with Latino patients in the health care industry. The course examines how social determinants of health contribute to health disparities affecting the Latino community in the U.S. Students will gain cultural competency by exploring the social, cultural, and political issues that create barriers to healthcare access for Latinos in the U.S. through the analysis of articles, documentaries, and literary texts. This course is taught primarily in English, with some terminology introduced in Spanish, and will serve as the foundation for the Medical Spanish and Latino Health Certificate. IC. PA-4A, SI-05.
