Catalog description
This course examines Brazilian culture through music, film, and visual storytelling. Students analyze how rhythm, narrative, and performance shape national identity and illuminate Brazil’s histories of race, class, gender, and religion. Through works from samba to Tropicália and contemporary Brazilian cinema, the course explores how artistic expression responds to political and social change. Emphasis is placed on interdisciplinary interpretation and on understanding cultural production as a dynamic site of creativity, resistance, and identity formation. Taught in English. IIB. PA3B.
