Geriatric Patients

Catalog description
A didactic year course that allows the student to apply knowledge gained over the didactic year to older patients. Discussion will include the unique physiology of the aging population and the role of comorbidities on quality of life and acute disease states. Students will also be challenged to consider the psychosocial effects of age, experience of loss, spiritual reflections, and functional activity within various physical, mental, spiritual needs and future planning, as well as the role of family and community dynamics affecting the geriatric patient. Prerequisite: Acceptance to the Physician Associate Program. Co-requisites: PAS 641 , PAS 642 , PAS 643 , PAS 644 , PAS 651 , PAS 681 .
