Psychotherapeutic Foundations and Modalities for PMHNPs

Catalog description
This course provides psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) students with a foundational understanding of the theoretical underpinnings of psychiatric care and psychotherapeutic frameworks. Multiple psychotherapeutic modalities will be explored, including evidence-based individual and group approaches for treating common mental health disorders. Students will examine the principles of therapeutic communication, case formulation, and treatment planning, including psychotherapeutic strategies and nonpharmacological interventions. Through analysis and application, learners will develop competencies in selecting and implementing psychotherapeutic approaches tailored to the unique needs of individuals and groups. Prerequisite: NSG 602 , NSG 604 , and NSG 606 .
